If you are so fortunate as to have a piece of earth to devote to a garden, you are blessed indeed.
Perhaps you view gardening as hard work. The initial task of establishing a garden is hard work, but the rewards are great:
• the freshest of fresh vegetables (and fruits, too!)
• herbs for tea and remedies
• flowers to bring beauty and grace to your home
And don’t forget all that lovely vitamin D (vitamin sunshine!) your skin is making as you work in the garden.
A garden can be a place of calm and serenity that restores and refreshes you in addition to offering, or should I say requiring, a healthy amount of natural movement that qualifies nicely as exercise.
My top tip is to plan a sitting area within the garden. Don’t just make it a workspace. Include in your plans a spot to sit and rest. A couple of inexpensive Adirondack chairs settled in the shade near a bed of fragrant herbs is ideal. A potted Bay laurel or lemon tree or flowers and a side table for cool drinks and a book add a sense of welcome and hospitality.
May your garden call you to come and sit a spell and enjoy her charms.
